Peres da Costa on the harpsichord
Canberra Times 7 Dec 1999. NEW NAME TO NOTE IN EARLY MUSIC
By BERNADETTE CRUISE
Neal
Peres da Costa is not a name to trip over every day. As director
of the early music group, Florilegium, he has been giving concerts
in Sydney and is soon to arrive in Canberra as harpsichordist
in Salut!'s Ode to Mr Henry Purcell.
The
name Peres da Costa is of Portuguese origin,'' he explains. "My
Indian parents were born in Goa, a Portuguese colony. I don't
think I have a drop of Portuguese blood. I had greater opportunities
than my parents, both of whom came from large families....."
London-based, Peres da Costa lives in SE London in a little village
called Nunhead which he says has a remarkable history... |
