Goa
was plunged into a political crisis on 19th November as 11 ruling
Congress legislators, including deputy speaker and four ministers,
resigned reducing the Luizinho Faleiro ministry to a minority.
On 24 Nov., Francisco Sardinha, leader of the breakaway Congress,
was sworn in as the new chief minister of Goa following Luizinho
Faleiro's resignation earlier that day.
Goa's
Governor J F R Jacob has been promoted to Governor of Punjab.
Mohammad Fazal will take his place.
4-year-old
Laura Albuquerque who had been kidnapped in Dona Paula was rescued
by the Police from her father, Harold Albuquerque, at Bangalore
airport whist attempting to board a flight to Muscat. Harold,
his father Bernardo and mother Prisca have been arrested on charges
of conspiring to kidnap the child.
Relations
between the Catholic Church and upper caste Catholic Goans of
Cuncolim are strained as parish priest Father Mendes appoints
members from the backward castes to the pastoral council - previously
seen as the right of the upper classes who now threaten to reconvert
to Hinduism.
What
is claimed to be Goa's largest ever Consumer Show takes place
in Margao Dec. 16-19.
