For the first time in six years, Goa will not have its own pavilion for promoting tourism at the World Travel Mart, to be held in London in November. Goa will promote itself from the India pavilion,.

A new cyber café, Dot.com has opened at Miramar with e-mail, internet surfing, and voice mail.

The Goa Gambling Act would be amended to accommodate casinos, which can attract high-spending tourists to Goa, according to Tourism minister Churchill Alemao. Goa will have two golf courses he said. He claimed that golf courses could be maintained with just rainwater.

The village of Arpora in Goa is now home to designer Wendell Rodericks' new restaurant, Aubergine. The cuisine is French-Goan fusion, like prawns sautéed in cream, feni, French bisque and green chillies, mixed cheese soufflé and prawn potato chops. A meal for two averages Rs 500 without drinks.

Quiteria de Noronha e Costa who gave birth to a `miracle child' and provided the test case for the beatification of Fr Joseph Vaz died on 27 Sept. after being bed-ridden for eight years. On 6 July 1993, Pope John Paul II declared the birth to be a miracle wrought by the intercession of Fr Joseph Vaz and beatified him in Colombo on 21 January, 1995 Goa Govt. to take over fields kept fallow for more than 3 years.
