The murders of Lionel Pinto and Susan Collings is "almost certain" to be featured on Carlton/LWT, Wed., 9 Aug. 2000, 22:00 - 22:30. The Police have not yet been able to establish the motive for the killings and are appealing for information. They are interested in unsubstantiated rumours or gossip or reports from second-hand sources relating to the problems or fears of the victims. Goa's Chief Minister, Francisco Sardinha, is writing a weekly column in the Sunday edition of the Gomantak Times. In the first contribution he wrote: "I would welcome any good suggestion from lovers of Goa - so that every Goan at large can participate in the overall development of our state. So put on your thinking caps and let's work together. For Goa."

The High Court has ordered the immediate suspension of fishing licences of all trawler owners in Goa up to August 15. The move came about after the trawler owners sought to dodge the traditional ban during the spawning season.
