The High Court has banned the playing of amplified music between 10 PM and 7 am in open places in Goa until further notice. Dances, weddings, beachside parties have been hit.

Blessed Joseph Vaz was formally proclaimed as the patron saint of the archdiocese of Goa and Daman at a religious function at Se Cathedral, Old Goa.

CM Francisco Sardinha's government intends to make ferry crossings free.

Representatives of the hotel industry have demanded that beach shacks be demolished immediately.

The Carnival will be celebrated in Goa from March 4 to 7.

A British girl aged 22 was raped by a group of six youths, all of whom worked as cooks and waiters along the beachbelt. Police arrested the six.
The crime was committed less than 12 hours after a city judge had pronounced seven-year jail terms in a case where two Swedish tourists had been gang-raped three years ago.

Goa has deferred implementation uniform sales tax rates as prescribed by the Central Government, which was to have come into effect last Friday.
Tax on computers would have risen from nil to 8 per cent, cars and two-wheelers 4 to 12 per cent and alcoholic beverages from 8 to 20 per cent.
