The
Goa Industries Minister, Mr Alexio Sequeira (who, incidentally,
was brought up in Mombasa), said that the convention directing
industries to compulsorily employ Goans had been withdrawn as
it smacked of being unconstitutional.
Last week the Tourism Minister, Ms Victoria Fernandes, held a
meeting in Goa to chalk out a programme for participation in the
forthcoming annual exhibition of World Travel Market (WTM) at
Earls' Court, London from November 13 to 16.
Crimes
against women are growing at an alarming rate in Goa says a study
conducted by the Goa State Commission for Women.
The
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) suffered a loss of
Rs 263.79 lakh during a span of five years ending 1999, due to
its failure in improving existing facilities made available for
domestic and foreign tourists on operation of tours.
The
Dhar Committee has given the green signal for the reprocessing
of copper from waste PVC cables at Meta Strips Limited factory
at Sancoale. However, "stringent safeguards" have been
recommended.

July Times of India 18 July. Indian Ocean Cruise Line (IOCL),
a private shipping company, is launching a dedicated cruise line
for the Indian Ocean region. The luxury liner -- Ocean Majesty
with a capacity of 600 passengers, will start its maiden voyage
on November 14 from Athens and touch Mumbai on December 5. The
liner will also call at Goa and it is hoped to extend operations
to include Sri Lanka, Maldives, Seychelles, East Africa and Singapore.
