When
the Language Act was passed in 1987, it was generally believed
that Marathi enjoyed equal status along with Konkani. However,
this was disproved by a High Court judgement recently which ruled
that Konkani was the sole official language of Goa.
Confusion
prevailed at Verna when a police mistook a funeral procession
for a march opposing the Meta Strips plant at Sancoale.
A
new restaurant, called Nostalgia had opened 5 kms from Margao.
It serves cafreal, vindalhos, sorpotel with sannas, pork kishmur
and desserts like bolo sansrival and alle belle. The waitresses
are dressed in traditional Kunbi saree.
An
Indo-British meet to strengthen trade ties and encourage NRI investment
is set to take place in London on July 7. Keith Vaz will be among

The
Director of Social Welfare has declared an award of Rs.10,000
per couple of Goan origin, for contracting a marriage wherein
either spouse belongs to the scheduled caste and has registered
the marriage in Goa.
Quepem MLA Prakash Velip is seeking to have the local Block Development
Officer, Ms Laura Britto, disciplined for allegedly calling him
and the Fatorpa Sarpanch, Umakant Dessai, "street dogs".
She denies doing so.

Gama (23) of Margao was arrested for accosting a lass aged 16
near the railway bridge. Shyam held her hands forcibly and uttered,
