Old
Goa is losing its pilgrimage ambience for world tourists due to
the growing and often illegal construction of small buildings.
Concerned
over the growing menace of plastic littering, an eighty-day clean-up
drive was launched in Goa on October 2 to collect millions of
plastic bags and bottles thrown in the fields, drains, roads and
beaches.
A soldier
in civilian clothes was taken to the police station for his involvement
in a brawl in a local bar. A posse of his military colleagues
attacked the Panjim police station and rescued him and in the
process two police constables were injured.
The
ban on the Anjuna Flea Market has been lifted following representations
made to the Chief Minister of the hardship it would cause to locals.
However, a survey on Wed. 4 Oct. revealed that only 20 of the
some 400 stallholders were locals.
Colva
beach is being guarded by security personnel to ensure that the
gypsies do not harass the tourists.
Goa's
Archbishop, Dr Raul Gonsalves said that Christianity was not a
foreign religion and Indian Christians were as patriotic and loyal
to their country as any other Indians.
The
PWD Minister, Mr Subhash Shirodkar, has said that the government
proposes to construct a bridge to Chorao.
