Fred
Noronha interviews Silicon Valley multi-millionaire Romulus Pereira,
probably the world's richest Goan. Still in his early 30s, Romulus
with two Indian friends set up a company, YAGO Systems in 1996.
It was soon sold for US$285 million. Full text is at http://www.goacom.com/news/news2000/sep/msg00079.htm
Extracts: I have seen a tremendous interest in computing from
the Goan community not only in the US but in Canada, the UK and
Australia… Goans have traditionally followed the more acceptable
paths to success such as being doctors, lawyers and traditional
engineering fields…I would encourage the young Goans who are just
graduating from colleges or early in their career to look at themselves
as entrepreneurs and branch out on their own as early as possible.
Even if they are unsuccessful in establishing their own high-tech
businesses, they will make better managers later in life as they
will have a broader experience and better business acumen from
having tried their hand at being an entrepreneur…
