The Special issue of this newsletter dated 2 July was largely devoted to an appeal for donations in order to sustain and improve this service and other facilities for the UK Goan Community. The hearing of the gang-rape case of British national Joleen Sketchley, came up on July 4 in Panjim and it was decided to proceed with the trial. The case was adjourned to July 23.

THE two mobile telephone operators in Goa, Birla-Tata-AT&T and BPL announced last week that they are to merge.

28 Jun. Evening Herald (Plymouth). Retired ambulanceman Colin Russell and his wife, Susan, took an electronic resuscitation dummy to Goa as many people drown needlessly in Goa's seas each year. Colin helped train Goa's Lions, doctors and nurses in simple resuscitation techniques, and lectured 2,500 local schoolchildren in one week. Yet another NZ man, Eoghan McBride is in the Goa prison awaiting trial for a similar offence.
