Twenty-two engineers and associates attended the third meeting of the Goan Engineers and Associates of Toronto, organised by John J. 7 Feb. Coventry Evening Telegraph. The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Cllr Dave Chater and his wife Chris are on a visit to earthquake ravaged Gujarat. They recently had a week's holiday in the tourist enclave of Goa, but that's not much preparation for the pollution and bustle of Delhi, the intricacies of Hindu village culture and the constant hassle from street traders everywhere.

9 Feb. Herald. Goa's IT Millionaire Makes News in Silicon Valley. Romulus Pereira, the 35-year-old Goa's little noticed millionaire is in the news, notwithstanding the recession. The firm he heads as a CEO, Riverstone Networks, is being seen as a rising star in Silicon Valley, taking on tough international brands like Cisco with its data-routing equipment. Some time back Pereira was in the news when firm he owned in partnership with two others, was sold for a few hundred million dollars. By Frederick Noronha. 10 Feb. Sunday Telegraph. 976 words. Henna tattoos may look beautiful but they could have painful and long-lasting effects, as Victoria Hislop found out after a trip to Goa. (Victoria Hislop is the wife of Ian Hislop, Editor of the satirical weekly, Private Eye and one of the anchors of BBC2's Have I Got News For You). Evidently these days a chemical, para-phenylene diamene (PPD) is being added to strengthen the colour and this is the cause of an occasionally extreme reaction, leaving her children with scabrous, angry sores. The account (1701 words) of their holiday with their children appeared in The Sunday Telegraph, 26 Mar. 2000.

12 Feb. Evening Mail (Birmingham). Fifteen students and staff of Sandwell College are visiting under-funded schools and orphanages in Goa in March this year. They have launched an appeal for well-wishers to donate pens, pencils and crayons for them to take to the youngsters in Goa. Donations, by March 1, to the College or phone 0121 253 6614.
