Manuel Mascarenhas, Thomson Holidays sales director, is thought to be looking for a new job after his role was axed in the latest TUI UK restructure. He moved to the UK from Uganda in 1967 with his Goan parents and attended school in Sidcup, Kent. As a family man with two daughters, Mr Mascarenhas also puts his negotiating skills to good use as a marriage counsellor. He loves to play tennis and cricket. From Travel Trade Gazette UK.

Neil D'Souza's contemporary love story, Five Beats To The Bar, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 18 Feb. at 14:15. A Worcester Park resident will be pounding the streets for this year's London Marathon. Husband of Bernadette; father of Joshua and Joel. brother-in-law of Charlotte/Hermes Mendes (Mombasa), Robert/Gracy Barret (Canada), late Anthon and Nivette. (He died in Belgaum where he had gone for an angiogram.)

14 Feb. Coventry Evening Telegraph. Coventry's Mayor, Dave Chater and his wife Chris spent last Christmas in Goa. They enjoyed what they say was "the best holiday of our lives." However, they were dismayed at the fate of the poor children who ran the risk of falling into the hands of unscrupulous 'sex tourists.' They met up with Anita Edgar, also from Coventry, who helps more than 150 children and runs 3 boarding school-style homes through the El Shaddai trust which is supported by Global Care, a Coventry-based charity. An appeal has now been launched to provide the children with postal parents. The Nation (Nairobi) Joseph Murumbi : Bookish foreign minister, Mr Joseph Zuzarte Murumbi, a nationalist of both Goan and Maasai origin quit politics altogether and devoted the rest of his life to putting together a world-famous collection of art, cultural artefacts and books from across the length and breadth of Africa. Although it was never stated publicly, Mr Murumbi resigned because he could not stomach the vicious politics and level of greed and corruption dominating the Kenyatta Government.

18 Feb. Yahoo. A British film called The Case, which was shot entirely in Goa last June, is due to be released soon. It is produced by Piers Jackson and directed by Mark Warner for Screen Association Productions. The film stars British actors Emily Bruni, Brad Gorton and Andy Linden and Indian actors Naresh Suri and Avinash Wadhawan. 18 Feb. Travel Trade Gazette. Tour operator Jewel in the Crown Holidays has pledged to hold winter 2002-03 prices to Goa at this season's levels in response to increasing demand. They plan a 20% expansion to 10,000, which was last year's level. They claim that holidays for February and March this year had sold out, and that there was only a handful left for April.
