May. Fortune Magazine. Palolem, Goa, India There's more to Goa
than full-moon rave parties. Palolem, one of the region's last
undiscovered towns, offers a chance to get in touch with the laid-back
spirit that made the region popular. Shop for saris in the stands
along the no-name main dirt road. Wander down the beach and wait
for a bamboo beach shack to call your name (doesn't matter which,
the hotels are all the same--think Gilligan's Island). Nighttime
is the only time you'll want to leave the waterfront, for just-caught
tandoori prawns at Cool Breeze, the best restaurant in town. Palolem
isn't for everyone--just those who want to drop out.
