Dennis Mendonca, 62, the Harley Street ENT specialist, was given
a two-year community rehabilitation order for beating his wife.
He had admitted at Cirencester Magistrates' Court assaulting her

Herman Sequeira Is The Golfer To Watch. Headline
in The East African Standard 8 Sep. 2002. Herman, a 14-year-old
student at Ampleforth College, UK, carried the day at the Standard
Newspaper Group Golf Club at the Muthaiga Golf Club. Herman is
the son of Evans and Annabelle Sequeira of Nairobi. His brother,
Alister 17, is also a student at Ampleforth.
Warren Noronha, who received the British Fashion Council's
New Generation Award last season, has drawn on the cult film Belle

GOA NEWS HEADLINES
The 358-year-old Ribandar to Panjim causeway partly crumbled
on 24 Aug. It is now accessible to light traffic only.
The licence fees for setting up beach shacks will be drastically
reduced to Rs.10,000 from Rs.25,000 but it will be mandatory for
owners to install mobile toilets A total of 180 shacks will be
permitted on beaches.
Ian Karl Alvares and Isabel Bruto da Costa are two young Goans,
who have been awarded the De Souza Trust Goa Scholarship, administered
by the British Council, for the year 2002. The Trust was set up
by a UK Goan.
The Tourism Minister told the State legislative assembly on Aug.
21 that the government had no information about the exact number
of charter flights to land in Goa during this year's tourist season
but informed that charter flights from Russia, Israel and Gulf
countries would arrive during this season.
India and Canada are likely to work out an arrangement early
next week to ensure seamless air connectivity between the two
