Rodrigues,
e-mail here airesrod@sancharnet.in
(ex-Canada and UK) moved back to Goa and has set up a legal
practice which provides a full service to those overseas.
He continues to keep an eagle eye on the interests of Goans.
On Monday, 22 Dec. 2003, Herald published a feature article
by him headlined “What Do NRI Goans Want?” His
conclusion is: “Overseas Goans are not satisfied with
what they see in Goa. There’s corruption. Bureaucratic
processes put off many NRIs from investing in Goa.”.
He is critical of the role of the Goa Facilitation Centre
and the forthcoming International Convention. Rumours are
circulating of a boycott of the event being organized locally.
Watch this space for developments.

in the UK." See: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/366229.cms |

Sonia Faleiro discovers why the family Christmas will never die
in Goa. Photographs by William O Rodrigues. Back when we were
kids and Santa was real fat, real red, and, well, just plain real,
Christmas in Goa began when December did. But the goodly feeling
of eating suckling pig, crafting Lilliputian crib figurines, and
trying to remain awake during Midnight Mass carried us through
the wintry dreariness of the forthcoming 11 months. http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.php?content_id=37502

ABC News (USA). Hot Spots to Escape the Winter Wonderland. Goa,
India : A magnet for travelers on the Asian backpacking trail
in December, this former Portuguese colony on India's west coast
comes alive during the holidays. Traditionally more liberal than
the rest of the country, Goa has a number of "happening"
beaches, where rave parties and a psychedelic culture offer remnants
of the old happy hippy trail. But there are also plenty of remote
beaches to escape to.

ABC News (US). Headline: Escape From Christmas. Excerpts: Sitting
in her swimsuit and sarong on a moonlit tropical beach on Christmas
Eve, Roz Hopkins experienced a delicious sense of liberation.
Far from her Irish Catholic family and the eggnog-by-the-fireplace
of a traditional London Christmas, Hopkins instead found herself
tucking into a curried lobster on a palm-fringed beach in Goa,
India.
That Christmas in Goa six years ago was her first away from home.
And the experience proved so agreeable, the 34-year-old book editor
has spent every Christmas since then away from her family. See:
