words. Joseph Crowley, an American
Congressman is calling for an investigation after Berna Cruz was
accused of carrying a fake passport, put on a flight to India,
and barred from entering the United States for five years. He
is asking the U.S. Government for a training program to be put
in place for immigration officers. He wants to "insure that
a mistake of this magnitude does not happen again." Canadian
officials are also seeking answers in the case of Berna Cruz.

London: Out of Blue - 28 min. film by Zarina Bhimji who was forced
to flee Uganda as a child. The opening scenes reveal the breathtaking
landscape of Uganda. However, almost immediately this luscious
vista is disturbed by the murmur of voices and the crackle of
flames. The film shows various places which suggest elimination,

10 March Indian Express. Venita Coelho is making a film titled
Monsters Under the Bed, dealing with paedophilia. "I want
people to stop sweeping the issue under the carpet,'' says Coelho,
who is aghast that Goa has been featured as a destination site
for paedophiles. The film will be directed by Coelho. Also on
the anvil are two other films, 6 o'4 that tackles the drug traffic

12 Mar. The Hindu. Western medicine appears to have first arrived
in India with the Portuguese in the 1500s. In fact, the records
speak of a Portuguese hospital in Goa dating to the early 16th
Century.

Tiga was raised on electronic music. His dad was a DJ who
shuttled the family off to Goa every summer until Tiga was thirteen.
Goa is an international hobo junction for acid heads, tantric
sex practitioners, disco bunnies, and hiker trash. Balls-to-the-wall
drug experimentation mixed with all-night open-air dance parties
-- now called raves -- were happening in Goa in the early '80s.
His dad played there at its height.

7 Mar. Birmingham Post. In her previous trips
to Goa, Insp Sally Holmes of Walsall
Road police station has taken stationery to help children with
their schooling. This year the orphanage has asked for toiletries.
With an unlimited luggage allowance, she plans to take all she
can collect. She has appealed for baby shampoo, oil, talcum powder,
antiseptic cream, nappy rash cream, baby soap, lotion and cotton
wool. Items should be marked for Insp Holmes and taken to police
stations before March 20. Insp Holmes will travel to Goa at the
end of March with students from Sandwell College and St George's
College, Birmingham.

INDIAN BABU. Lawrence D'Souza's love story of an engaged Indian
woman who falls for another man while in London having treatment
for heart trouble.
7 Mar. The Nelson Mail (New Zealand). Ian
McWhannell, 70, now based in Goa, is back in New Zealand
to track a Kiwi child predator. His mission is to rid his home
city of Goa from European paedophiles. About eight years ago he
organised a watchdog group of Goan volunteers to aid the under-resourced
Indian police to identify and apprehend suspected European paedophiles.
The group had brought eight people to justice, including two New
Zealanders, and chased at least 30 others out of town. Now he
is back in New Zealand on the trail of a Christchurch man wanted
in Goa for sexual offences with children. The man was convicted
in Goa but escaped while on bail awaiting trial. Mr McWhannell
said he was confident of finding the man.
9 Mar. Melbourne Herald. Hajmi Chanda
of boarded the flight from Goa, with a snake in his hand baggage.
Scared passengers raised an alarm and called the crew when Chanda
tried to feed milk to the snake. Chanda told the crew that he
bought the boa from Goa for 1,000 rupees. The crew offloaded him
along with the snake when the flight touched down next and he

to improve housing in an attempt to persuade affluent members

12 Mar. National Post (Canada). Review of Chippy's, a cool new
fish and chips that opened a month ago across from Trinity Bellwoods
Park, Montreal. It is owned by a French-trained Goan chef named
Neil Coutinho, who cooked at the defunct Rosewood, and John Lee,
who lived for a time in London and knows a good fish and chips
when he sees one.
13 Mar. Diário Digital (Portuguese). Madres de Goa is
a new Lisbon bar/restaurant designed as a meeting place for friends
and targeted at the 25-40 age group.
