became the first Maidstone mayor from an ethnic minority when
he was sworn in on Wednesday. His dream is an inclusive society
where all the people of Maidstone work together. Morel was
born in Nairobi and educated in Goa. He came to Britain in
1968. The Mayoress is his wife, Karin and they have a son,

Two
teachers from Goa, Newton D'Souza
and Wilma Pereira, who are currently
in the UK on a teacher exchange project have been featured on
a teletext information page on BBC Television. GONAS an organisation
funded by private donations covered the costs of the exchange

Dr
Alba De Souza was a finalist in the Asian Women Of
Achievement Awards 2003. The citation read: Alba has worked
consistently over 30 years to promote the advancement of education
in developing countries, notably in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her
work has been carried out on behalf of governments, international
aid agencies and bodies such as UNESCO and UNICEF. Through
her work, Alba has had a direct impact on educational opportunities
for millions of the world's poorest people, with particular
focus on the education of girls and young women. |
She has successfully linked her initiatives in education to
the other major symptoms and causes of poverty - nutrition
and healthcare. Her work has been recognised by the Government
of Kenya, the United Nations and the Rockefeller Foundation.

first Indian chef in London to stretch our eyes and incredulity

to his imagination and energy.
