Book Review: Dinesh D’Souza’s The War at Home
8 Feb: National Post (Canada). Among American political pundits,
there's no shortage of shrill comedy clowns … it's shocking
to hear the author of respected right-wing manifestos like
Illiberal education and the end of racism make such a fool
of himself. D'Souza's new book, The War at Home: The Cultural
Left and Its responsibility for 9/11, has been called "sleazy"
and "shameless" by Vanity Fair's James Wolcott.
The New York Times, in a rare full-on mortar attack, dubbed
it "a national disgrace." 723 words.

Latin music … His love for Goa has no bounds. Says

GOA REAL ESTATE
More NRIs clamour for front seats
in India’s realty show
9 Feb: Economic Times. For NRIs, it’s homecoming of
a different kind. Flush with cash and gung-ho about the red-hot
Indian realty market, NRIs are pumping in more funds in this
sector. More for returns rather than emotional fulfilment,
as was the case traditionally. As per industry estimates,
close to 25% of all NRI remittances are flowing into the real
estate domain. And there are no signs yet for the boom to
slow down. Consider this: During a 3-month period in ’06,
NRIs in the UK invested over £100 million in cities
like Delhi, Bangalore, Goa and Mumbai. 880 words.

Goa on 23 March 2005 due to collision of two vessels. In general,
fair weather with weak winds prevails along the west coast

moved slowly and reached the coast. However, in 2005 when
this event occurred, relatively stronger winds prevailed,
and these winds forced the spill to move away from the coast.
The spill trajectory was dominated by winds rather than currents.

Israel was a huge country with 70 million people or so.
The Israeli presence in Goa, and the Jewish life that surrounds
it, are just part of the continuing story of our peripatetic
people. 504 words. Click here.

Ben Antao's latest novel, The Tailor's Daughter, was released
in Goa on Jan 10, 2007. Here is a clue as to what it is
about. "What happens when a beautiful, charming and
ambitious Eliza Rodricks of Nairobi goes to study tailoring
in Margao and falls in love with the local bhatkar? She
doesn't think twice before giving away her heart and body
to the arrogant seducer Jorger Pacheco." Goan Voice
(UK) readers will find this novel with an unusual theme,
leaving readers spellbound and heartbroken. It's a story
that takes a searing look at the hypocritical and traditionally
caste-bound society of seemingly modern Goa.
"Goa celebrates its Portuguese past" is the theme
of an interesting account depicting "Mala Fontainhas,
the venue for Goa's Fontainhas Festival, a fete where art
meets life, where every house in the colony is converted
into an art gallery. The Fontainhas Arts Festival breathes
the Portuguese culture and holds fast to Indo-Portuguese
hybridity."
Do read illuminating detail about the First International
Congress of Lusophony (Feb 8-10, 2007) sponsored by FLUBE
(Fraternidade Lusofona de Boa Esperanca) at the Universidade
Lusofona, Lisbon.
Finally, how would GV (UK) readers respond to a Goan poster
from Australia, who in all seriousness, says the following?
..."the fact is that India should quit Goa immediately
and pay compensation to the nascent free state of Goa for
the occupation and exploitation of our country since 1961."
Is such a poster deluded or a true visionary? Please let
Goanet know as soon as possible!
