RECENT ITEMS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST ON GOANET. BY CORNEL DACOSTA

For those particularly interested in political issues in Goa, there has been much available recently on this theme on Goanet. This is not to be missed.

There have been many posts about miracles in/at Pota. For those in Europe and familiar with Lourdes and Fatima, finding about events in Pota would be useful for purposes of interesting comparison.

The perennial issue of whether India invaded and conquered Goa or liberated it from the Portuguese, never seems to go away for long. However, some of the recent material on this theme does have new facets to it and well worth exploring.

In a substantial article available at www.youtube.com, Goanet reports a new study indicating that, "85% of Roman Catholic dioceses in the USA have discovered embezzlement during the last five years, with 11% having been embezzled out of more than a half-million dollars each." One Goanet poster therefore asks if the same thing is happening in Goa?

When Goan Voice (UK) readers hear Goan Mandos, do they think that they all seem to sound like the old ones of yesteryear? Well, Roland Francis posed such a question in what appears to be the beginning of an interesting discussion. One response so far from Fausto V. D'Costa has named some and indicated that "there are quite a number of new original Mando compositions by recent composers and musicians."

Is Goa a new paedophile's paradise? Find out about this issue in Goanet's report of a substantial BBC article by Allan Urry. One short paragraph says that "Child sex tourism is threatening to become the darker side of life in Goa's tropical paradise---and there is evidence that the Indian authorities are turning their back on the problem."

Finally, is religion the last bastion of moral impunity? If uncertain or wanting to know more, than do read Selma Carvalho's engaging and introspective short piece on this issue.

More details can be found at the Goanet archives at http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/ Or to subscribe to Goanet, send an email to subscribe@goanet.org
