Jul: Now Toronto. Cover Story. Ian D'Sa is the soft-spoken
brains behind Billy Talent. Before the group took off

A&Ps and Loblaws stores in the middle of the night
and steal milk crates," confesses Kowalewicz. "We'd
stash them in Ian's parents' basement." …
Ian D'Sa's fab flattop makes him the band's most arresting
visual trademark … he will be travelling to Kenya
for 2 weeks with the other artists and the organizers

GOANET HIGHLIGHTS BY CORNEL DACOSTA
The theme of "who is a fascist?" has engendered
a lively debate on Goanet. Varying definitions and interpretations
have been submitted for discussion. Hopefully, Goan Voice

in contrast, care "little about building pro-people
human resources and skills or people's needs?" This
fairly fundamental question relating to social capital,
needs to be addressed according to F. Noronha. Once again,
hopefully, GV(UK) readers will generate some lively momentum
to this issue.
Rui Nuvo has increasingly engaged in some unusual themes
that are clearly welcomed in the interests of a diversity
of opinion on Goanet. His two recent submissions on the
theme of urban squalor, end with a piece on "Mapuca
A Gutter." As there are many Goans in the UK originating
from Mapuca, will they accept Rui's description of Mapuca
today or reject it out of hand?
Konkani Karaoke music has seemingly arrived at last on the
Goa scene. Find out more about this theme from a brief article
by Edward Verdes titled First Konkani Karaoke Song.
Goanet has much about the thousands of Goans who are seeking
to leave Goa by drawing on official documents to help them
obtain Portuguese passports. This has been a familiar theme,
and especially, about the incredibly long wait for so many
to see their documents processed. However, related questions
have also been raised like why do so many Goans want to
leave Goa by using a Portuguese passport? Further, is it
true that some 10,000 Goans reside in Portugal on a permanent
basis when many assumed that Lisbon was a stepping-stone
to destinations providing work opportunities in the UK and
Germany? Find out so much more about this issue on Goanet.
Indeed, in an article in the Herald Newspaper sometime in
2004, I had suggested that rather than get fleeced by 'agents'
and endure uncertainty for absolutely ages to obtain a Portuguese
passport, fellow Goans should use the Internet to seek work
in any part of the world and use the more easily available
Indian passport for travel purposes.
Finally, readers of the GV(UK) might relish some leisurely
viewing on their screens of thousands of photographs of
Goa taken by keen enthusiasts of photography. Check out
