Indian visas
12 Oct: Travel Trade Gazette UK. From Stephanie
Cockerill travel adviser, Instant Holidays
(United Co-op Group): Owing to the change
in Indian visa applications in the past month
clients can no longer apply by post for the
six-month tourist visa. I have clients on the
Isle of Man who had documents returned with no
visa and postal orders payable to the High
Commission of India, and clients who have
queued at the Consulate General of India,
Birmingham, from 6am. As they issue only 50
per day this was a fruitless exercise, and
very fraught with the police being called …
I expect sales for Indian holiday destinations
to drop significantly as the ability to
obtain a visa will now be too time-consuming
for most. My question to the High
Commission of India: why?
UK: Notice for the Visa
Applicants to India

been issuing Indian visas so far on the date
of application. However, due to a substantial
increase in demand for our visa services, the

visas on the same day, visa applicants are advised

day to issue and should plan their itinerary

GOANET HIGHLIGHTS by Cornel DaCosta
Goan Voice (UK) readers who may wish to make
investments in Goa/India will find much useful
advice in Goanet posts about such matters. An
interesting post from Gabe Menezes, drawing from
the Hindustan Times and titled 'By George! Sensex
Hits an all-time high of 19000 points' is illustrative
of the goings on re the stocks and shares
market(s) in India.
GV (UK) readers often seek news about local
events in Goa, and Goanet has much to offer in
this respect. For instance, there is a detailed
account of the Sixth Cantaram Competition held
on Oct 15, at the Kala Academy. So too is a detailed
account of the Pomp, and Enthusiasm [that] marks
the Fama of Menino Jesus at Colva, Salcete, Goa.
Such details often represent a short summary of
much longer accounts in local papers in Goa
like the Navhind Times, and the Herald.

Goa--An Intimate Portrait is a photo exhibition
by Rajan P. Parrikar to be held, Nov 1--6,
at the Institute Menezes Braganza (Art Gallery),
Panjim, Goa. "This will encompass many sides
of Goa, from its image as the fun-filled
destination of sun, sand and fun to the
assault on the land by the real estate sharks,
complicity of the venal Goan politicos, and
the hordes of outsiders pitching their tents
that have put Goa on the fast-track to doom."
GV(UK) readers surely must wish to comment
on the scenario as depicted by Rajan.
Discovering history through archaeological
finds is always fascinating and Rohit Phalgaonkar's
article titled Archaeological Wonders of
Priol highlights this point. Priol, a small
village in Ponda taluka and a land of many temples,
has recently yielded Madhav Mantri copper
plates of the Vijayanagar period. Much detail
is provided by Rohit about the temples and
their decor and contents. They surely will be
the object of much interest to local people
and visitors.
Finally, from an article by Roland Francis,
titled Special Olympians Do Goa Proud, we
learn that, "Goa's special Olympians captured
10 medals including seven gold at the 2007
Special Olympics World Summer Games at Jiangwan
