He also said that the Goans are the best people, well-mannered and peace loving. He further stated that the Goans have absorbed the British culture and are law abiding community in the UK… Councillor Julie Wright and Locality Facilitation Swindon Borough Council Frances Barrone said that they were totally happy with the Goan community in Swindon … The music was provided by Abel and his group… the President of the Goa Swindon Association Nelson Carvalho & the Chairman Tony Noronha explained the need of more cooperation and support from the community in Swindon. Australian Geologist held with sat phone at Mumbai airport 14 Jul: Times of India. An Australian geologist was arrested at Mumbai airport for carrying a satellite phone on Saturday. Andrew McDonald (54), also vice-president of a Malaysian firm, was subsequently released on bail. Andrew arrived in Mumbai from Malaysia on July 11 with his family. Congress expresses shock over Shripad Naik's call to curb pub culture 13 July: Business Standard. Former Union Minister and Congress leader Rajiv Shukla on Sunday expressed his shock over the Union minister of state for tourism and culture, Shripad Naik's statement on putting a rein on pub culture which exists in parts of the country. Mumbai: Economic Offence Wing case against president of Catholic Christian Secular
13 Jul: Daily News & Analysis. The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police
has registered a case of cheating against Joseph Dias, president, Catholic
Christian Secular Forum. The suspect, allegedly, in connivance with three
others duped an elderly citizen of Rs 2.2cr. According to Fr Conrad Patrick Saldanha
(49), the complainant, in 2010 was introduced to an elderly spinster, Paulita
D'Souza, who stayed at Willington Society. Dias requested him to negotiate a redevelopment
project of D'Souza's house with her which had been stuck

on condition of anonymity, said: "We have registered a case of cheating and
criminal conspiracy after we received the complaint. We have called Dias and the
other accused to register their statement and are investigating the matter."

Haven for jobs is living hell for Goan maids in the Gulf 13 Jul: Times of India. Tragic tales of how Goan housemaids in the Gulf are harassed, beaten, deprived of food and then denied permission to return home, continue to come to light. Times of India had reported in June how one was not allowed to come back for her husband's cremation. She is still stranded in Kuwait. Another, according to her relatives, is given 'boiled snakes' as food, while a third is made to work in four households, and the fourth is made to work till 2am without rest.
