I hail from the tiny state of Goa, the only one in the Indian Union where a common civil code has been in operation for the past two centuries or more… The present Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, in a futile attempt to create dissensions, where none existed, between Hindus and Christians, stated that many churches had been built in Goa by the Portuguese on the debris of destroyed Hindu temples… The real reason for the decline in mass conversions was the Marquis of Pombal’s directives to his officials in Portugal and its colonies to discourage the clerics from interfering in matters of the State…. 14 Jul: The Goan. Archives Dept tightens rules for inspection of records. According to the new rules, public will be permitted to enter the general servicing area with only a paper and pen where an ID proof will have to be submitted for application of records… No photography of records will be allowed and mobiles will have to be switched off… Public will also not be allowed to copy/write down the contents of public records… However, research scholars will be permitted to enter with a book, pen/pencil and laptop… Heirs/parties to the inventory proceedings can apply or submit an authority letter from the heirs or parties …  click here
